Pig traps - Stage 1

Stage one of the pig trapping has commenced.

I popped down and purchased a MIG welder , a heap of iron and a whole heap of ideas. With some assistance from maverick, we have welded up three quarters of one trap and hope to finish the rest of them off this weekend.

Once it is completed I will put lick of paint on and then put it out in the paddock a field tests and let you guys know how I go.

Are you making a panel trap Brendan?

All the pig traps i've used are silo traps and they work well and reasonably easy to build and move. basically a circle of welding mesh stuff and star droppers with the two mesh ends pushing against each other making a one way gate. you can tie the gate open and feed in there to get the pigs used to the trap and then to set it untie the gates and put a small stick in the gate so there's an opening. Once one pig is in there the others push through the mesh gate.

I know exaclty what you mean.  They use these types of traps out west and a lot around dams.  With my trap I want to be able to transport them in the trap if needed so I have gone for a box trap design.
