Newsflash!!!!

Well after many months of searching we have found a new hunting dog and family guard dog (Just don't tell the wife as she thinks is the family pet).

I have spent the last 12 months studying dog training techniques for obedience, tracking and protection work, so it goes without saying that I am very excited about our new addition to the family.

We wanted a dog that had super strength and a heap of intelligence, along with being able to fit into the family and have the ability to protect/guard if needed (Looking and sounding scary is 99% of the work).

Looking around at all the breeds we decided on a Great Dane cross with ridge back and Mastiff.  Boy let me tell you it is a lot of work to find such a dog....  Most of the dogs our there have crap looking parents and if you look at the forums you will see that some of the breeds out there have attitude.

I think my wife had took it on as a personal challenge to find me a dog and today it appears she has found one.  The father is 3/4 Great Dane and 1/4 Bull Mastiff while the mother is 1/2 Great Dane and 1/2 Bull Mastiff.

We are off to Sydney to pick her up.  Have a look in the media section to see what they new addition to the family looks like.

The road ahead is going to be a rough journey as it has been 10 years since I had a puppy.  It will make for an interesting blog as you will learn from my experiences and you will get some really good advice on what to do and what NOT to do. Smile

The first test for the puppy is to pass my personality test....

When I go up there I will be looking at what type of personality the new puppy has, it has to have confidence and fire in its belly.  It has to have courage along with some intelligence, to determine this I will be performing some tests, test like.

How does the new puppy react to strange sounds? Is it scared easy...
Does it react to food.
How does it react to voice commands?
Does it get scared easy and more importantly how long does it take to recover to the situation.
What does it do when taken away from the pack?

I am hoping it will perform well with these simply tests and if so it will be coming home with us to take on its new role as Pig dog in training and new family guard/protector.

Stay tuned.....
